No Jail-breaking with out additional app needed.
Do you constantly get calls coming from a telemarketing number that's driving you crazy, Wouldn't it be great so that you can block, Definitely, but since that's not a built-in option about the iPhone a great workaround is usually to give the number a silent ringtone. All you have to do is build a contact in the number and hang the ringtone to Silent. Once again, they missed the objective and a silent ringtone doesn't have your phone, however, there are several simple silent ringtones available. Here's a small 8K file SilentRing.m4r
Here's how to add the Silent Ringtone to your phone:
Download a silent ringtone in your computer. SilentRing.m4r
Open iTunes. Under LIBRARY for the left-hand menu in iTunes click TONES.
Copy the silent ringtone into TONES.
Connect your iPhone towards the computer and sync (make sure Sync Tones is checked). The silent ringtone should now come in your list of ringtones and you can assign this ringtone to specific contacts
Here's the method that you assign the ringtone towards the number you need to Block”:
Open Phone App.
Go to RECENTS on your call list and click about the arrow on the right with the number to get more options.
Select Create New Contact.
Fill in the name field, I usually put SCAM or TELEMARKETER so I know with a quick glance in the future.
Select for the ringtone currently shown as Default.
Choose the SilentRing ringtone from your list.
Press the SAVE button.
Depending on the default settings you may also need to set Vibration to NONE.
Press the DONE button inside upper right hand corner of the screen.
Now when that number calls again you'll see the call as SCAM (or what you may entered) nonetheless it won't ring.
Another option is always to create a single SCAM contact and add the newest number to it using Add to Existing Contact”. That way you only have to set the ringtone and vibration on one contact. However, if you are syncing contacts with other services you may should look into the limits on cell phone numbers per contact.
Admittedly, it isn't really really blocking a call however it does cause them to become silent that is certainly all we want don't you find it, This is a quite simple solution it doesn't require a third party app which enable it to be used on any contacts you would like. Hope it will help and you can comment or share to demonstrate your appreciation.

This is a great explanation of the best way to accomplish adding a silent” ring tone towards the iPhone and then tying it to numerous numbers.
The problem is other cel phone manufacturers are making tasks this way MUCH easier. The fact that the product must first be connected to a computer to produce these changes is something that's not required by other manufacturers.
I LOVE Apple, own an iMac, Mac Book Pro, iPad, etc….even hold stock within the company, but Apple's should do EVERYTHING the APPLE WAY” is gonna eliminate the brand. Many with the Apple products and software are most often getting LESS intuitive, as opposed to easier to use. jmho

I couldn't choose this work. When I opened iTunes and clicked on Library, Tones wasn't an option.
David July 18, 2013 at 10:57 am
Tom, it might be that Tones aren't active within your Library so check out Preferences -> General and ensure that Tones is checked being a Source.

David August 3, 2013 at 8:56 am
Agreed, it's frustrating. iOS7 has call blocking built-in which will be nice, finally.
Bill August 3, 2013 at 12:52 pm

After using Android for decades, I was stunned that my iPhone 5 was lacking a silent ringtone option and I refuse to may $2 first!
Really do appreciate some time you put into the tutorial!

Unable to repeat and paste into Tones. Frustrating! Drag and drop have not either. When I tried import” it will only go to Music, not Tones.
David August 10, 2013 at 2:25 pm
Can the thing is that Tones” within your iTunes library, If not, it might be that Tones aren't active within your Library so go to Preferences '> General and be sure that Tones is checked as a Source.
Also, ensure to click Sync Tones” on the iPhone (Devices) area of iTunes.
On PC, you might be able to just double click on the silent tone in Windows Explorer — just ensure you've deleted the file everywhere else — to make it automatically install it into the Tones folder.

I too trust everyone with the fact apple is making it harder not to look at other brands! But thank you for that sound file! Saved so many of us the $1.29 minimum download 😉
Great solution for continuous spam calls. Thanks quite definitely!

Thanks to create this ringtone! It saved me some time of creating my very own. Universal Survey Center calls me 2x every day, and won't remove my number off their database.
For individuals having problems installing this ringtone:
1) One way to download the file is always to context click (press option while clicking) around the linked file above (in blue) and select Download Linked File.
2) Once the file is downloaded, be sure the name is correct:
SilentRing.m4r. When my Mac downloaded it, it changed the name to SilentRIng.m4r.mp4, so I was required to remove themp4 extension.
3) Then, just double click on the file, and yes it should install itself in Tones in iTunes. Everything works depending on David's description, a minimum of in Mountain Lion and taking advantage of the latest version of iTunes.
Nechama September 9, 2013 at 2:19 am
Oops, I meant that control-click is context hitting a Mac. I've used my trackpad for so very long for this function, I'd forgotten the keys.

Brian March 11, 2014 at 2:16 pm

Thank you so much David. It was so useful and straightforward. I still cant figure out why Apple won't provide substitute for silence annoying callers.
Hi -
I think I am not doing something right, I was capable to download and sync the Silent tone file on my iPhone. However when I try to produce a contact using Phone app > Recent calls , I do not see any arrow to the right of No Caller ID” calls. All I see is an i” information icon in a small circle clicking on which does not give me the option to produce a contact. I manually made a contact with contact name and speak to as No Caller ID” which would not trigger the silent tone either.
>>>
Go to RECENTS on your own call list and click about the arrow to the right in the number for further options.
Select Create New Contact.

May become the perfect solution is good only when a number is displayed. In case the caller calls like a private call, iPhone displays No Caller ID”. Not sure if create contact would work in that case,

iPhone5S January 20, 2015 at 12:19 pm
The iPhone 5s allows you to bar callers or texters. Just go in your settings, messages, blocked. Voila. Follow the directions and all set.
Joe Martin February 6, 2015 at 1:08 pm
I downloaded the ringtone to my tones list with my Iphone synched to ITunes. However I cannot discover the SilentRing tone in my listing of available ringtones. I can't even find it within the settings menu.
Make sure tones are selected being synced in iTunes
Jeannie March 23, 2015 at 2:43 pm
I downloaded your silentring but got into my iTunes Library. I cannot, however, understand it into Tones. Can you help, Thank you quite definitely!
David March 25, 2015 at 9:37 am
Are you having problems getting it into Tones on iTunes or in the ringtone section from the phone,
For iTunes, see some in the previous replies to match your problem.
For the phone, make certain tones are selected to be synced in iTunes then sync your phone.

Worked brilliantly. Perfect solution for ‘blocking' calls from my dad who thinks it's ok for him to call me whenever you want during my morning if he wants me to behave for him, and who will call back repeatedly (3, 4, five times) if I don't pick up…! I am most grateful to the help.
Ian August 19, 2016 at 5:43 am
Thank you, I've just sorted this from my soon to-be-replaced 3GS. I knew the best way to do it anyway, though the downloadable silent ringtone sure helps, and saved me time creating it, and is also now used on my contact called Cold Callers”.
