The ability to make conference calls on your iPhone makes it easier to use your device in professional settings. All major US carriers support conference calls, but how many lines you can add will vary depending on your carrier. That’s because wireless carriers use one of two radio systems: GSM or CDMA, and your phone’s capabilities will vary depending on the radio system your carrier uses. Carriers that use GSM, including AT&T or T-Mobile, support up to five calls simultaneously. Carriers that use CDMA—including Sprint, Verizon, and US Cellular—support six calls as long as your have an iPhone 6 or newer. If you have an older iPhone and have a CDMA carrier, you can make up to three calls simultaneously. Here's how to make a conference call on your iPhone. Sign up to iPhone Life's Tip of the Day Newsletter and we'll send you a tip each day to save time and get the most out of your iPhone or iPad.
Place the first call. When that person picks up, tell them you will be placing them on hold or muting their call while you connect the other parties. Tap Add Call, and you'll be taken to Contacts, where you can tap a person's name to initiate the second call. This automatically places the first call on hold. Once the second person answers, tap Merge Calls, and all three of you will be able to hear each other and take part in the conversation. Repeat the above steps until you've connected to all the people in the conference call. You can drop a person from the conference call by tapping the info icon to the right of the names and tapping End next to the person's name. You can talk privately with one individual in the conference call by tapping the info icon and then tapping "Private" next to the desired phone number or name. Tap on "Merge Calls" to reconnect with the conference call.
