Everyone always looks for alternatives to stock applications that the iPhone provides us with. The reasons may vary: design, convenience, functional limitations. But the result is the same - we look for something better. The new iOS 7 has given us a better Weather app - but nevertheless not many of us are fully satisfied with the Notes app.
Here we tried to gather the stock apps worth replacing - and the best candidates for such a replacement from our point of view. It won't be a surprise if you already use most of them - it just shows that the choice is really good. No need to describe Skype in detail - everyone is familiar with its functional set. Instant messaging, file sharing, voice and video calls - all of these are available across the desktop and mobile operating systems.
There is one more worthy candidate we couldn't miss - Viber, which uses your phone number as the ID. Free calls across the globe through WiFi and 3G, photo/video/text messaging, synchronization with the contact list - ad-free and convenient. Both are a great replacement for the standard phone and messaging functions.
And for FaceTime too. Sunrise is currently one of the best calendars on the market. It's free and it's constantly improving. Facebook integration (events and birthdays), Google Maps for directions, synchronization, and weather forecast as a nice spice. As we can see, Sunrise can occupy even more than one app category. It's the app that you'll check every day, and its design and user experience are truly worth it.
Mail is another thing that's used every day. We have lots of chat apps, social networks, but email is still present and has a steady foothold. Quick navigation, simplicity of design, intuitive gestures to accomplish any action, real-time notifications - that's what we appreciate in such applications. On the other hand, who doesn't have a Google account, If we combine this, we'll get either the official Gmail client or Mailbox, which is as good, but works with Gmail only.
Mailbox has a nice bonus point when activated - an additional 1GB of free Dropbox storage. Even better it will be when support goes beyond Gmail as was promised. Those who for one reason or another dislike using Safari, have the great options of Chrome and Dolphin. Both of these have proved useful and popular on mobile devices.
In fact, it's hard to state what's the best in the war of browsers - everyone chooses for themselves. Chrome is the most popular browser available for desktop and mobile. Dolphin is a mobile browser which handles its tasks none the worse. There are many really good apps that incorporate camera shooting, photo editing and sharing, that's why it's quite a hard choice to make. But here it is - Snapseed.
Before sending a new shot to your Instagram (which itself is a fine alternative to Camera), you may make some adjustments in Snapseed. All the universal tools you need are at your service: brightness, contrast, saturation, crop, straighten & rotate, add filters and frames - it'll take too long to list everything, it's better just to try it.
If you want an elegant substitute for the default Photos app, you might go for Cooliris. It's easily the best photo viewing app that looks really beautiful on an iPad. You may swipe through the galleries of your photos on your iDevice. You may take a moment to view your own and discover your friends' photos on social networks. It's impossible not to love this app. Photo sharing on social networks and cloud storages included.
Google Maps took the top in the App Store after it had been removed as a default iOS mapping app and replaced by Apple Maps. It's not that necessary to talk much about the app that has recently been renowned as the most frequently downloaded one across the US. Springpad and Evernote are usually praised as the ultimate services for note-taking. It's not a heavy task management tool for handling tasks, subtasks and sub-subtasks.
