Your iPhone is plugged in, yet it's not charging. Why won't the iPhone charge, Is the iPhone broken, Is it time to panic, Probably not, in fact there are some really common reasons an iPhone won't charge, and many of the time it's nothing to do with the iPhone itself (unless it absolutely was damaged, but more on that in just a minute).
How to Check if iPhone is Not Charging
First things first, how would you definitively know if an iPhone is charging it or not, When the unit is attached to a power source, look in the status bar for the battery icon. If there is a lightning bolt next to the battery icon, the iPhone is charging.
If the iPhone is plugged in and it's not charging the battery whatsoever, and there is no lightning bolt next to it icon, read on for the likely reasons and ways to fix it.
1: Check the iPhone Charging Port for Debris, Lint, Obstructions
One of the primary reasons an iPhone won't charge is remarkably simple; the port on the iPhone is clogged with dust, debris, pocket lint, or some other obstruction. Something quite small can simply prevent a charging cable from fitting properly into the iPhone, so the very first thing you want to do is look into the charging port around the iPhone and check out any crud or build-up in there. See some lint or some other wad of gremlin or crud, Get it out of there, preferably with similar to a Q-Tip, toothpick, or a dry toothbrush. If you possess a can of air, blowing it inside can help too.
Once the charging port is cleared out, try charging it again. Seriously, junk inside the port is usual (that applies for Macs with MagSafe too ) and it can prevent a computer from syncing, charging, or getting any power at all. It probably works now, right, If not, continue reading.
1B: Wait, Check the Cables Plug End too!
Before moving beyond this place, be sure to look into the plug end with the cable also, often it can accrue stuff about it that would avoid the connection from forming also. Thanks to several commenters who pointed this out just as one reason why a cable wouldn't charge properly.
2: Change the Wall Outlet or USB Port Plugged Into
The next most frequent reason an iPhone won't charge could be because of where it's actually plugged into. Sometimes the wall outlet itself isn't working or even the light switch is powered down, and if you're using a charger then alter the outlet.
If you're charging the iPhone from the USB cable associated with a computer, sometimes the USB port for the computer itself is the problem. Try another USB port for the computer, PC or Mac does not matter, that frequently fixes the problem too.
Oh, and another perk to employing a wall outlet is that it usually charges the iPhone faster too Sweet.
3: Check the USB Cable for Damage
Damage on the USB charging cable prevents an iPhone from charging. This can be somewhat obvious in certain situations, and if the cable is fraying or torn, well, there's your problem. If your cable is damaged, you want a new USB cable to charge the iPhone, it's that simple. Fortunately, you will get cheap Amazon Lightning USB cables that are certified
and so they work great and they are quite durable.
Another potential USB cable related issue that may make an iPhone not charge the battery are cheap knock-off cables that are low quality. You'll usually encounter an oversight that the cable is just not certified about the iPhone (or iPad) itself if this sounds like what is causing the charging issue.
4: Reboot the iPhone
Rarely needed, but sometimes a simple reboot can resolve a software issue that truly refuses to acknowledge these devices is charging. This is somewhat rare, nonetheless it can happen. So if you've tried all with the above along with the iPhone battery is still not charging in any way, force reboot the iPhone by holding along the Power button and Home button until you see the  Apple logo, it may help.
5: The iPhone Was Damaged and Won't Charge
If the iPhone continues to be severely damaged, it often won't charge. Usually a simple screen crack won't make a difference, but if the iPhone was run over by a dozen cars or fell out of a 50 story window, it's probably toast and won't charge as the hardware is damaged. Another quite normal reason for charging and power problems is water contact, or dropping an iPhone into liquid and never drying it out properly. If the iPhone has sustained excessive water damage and had not been dried out properly and sufficiently, the iPhone battery can often be destroyed, and other electrical components inside iPhone can be damaged at the same time, that can completely steer clear of the iPhone from charging. Fortunately this is usually pretty all to easy to determine, just like your iPhone took a deep swim and it's now not charging the battery, that's almost certainly the reason why. Try drying against each other for 72 hours roughly in silica or rice, it might revive it, or perhaps you may just need a new iPhone or hardware element of fix the issue. Often automobile iPhone is physically damaged, either by blunt force or by liquid, the iPhone won't even activate or respond to normal fixes for that like leaving it plugged in for a time let alone charge when connected to an energy source. If the iPhone is broken, well, you will need to take it in for service, or modify the one.
Those are the most typical reasons an iPhone won't charge when connected to a power source, so if battery isn't moving whatsoever, you never see a charging indicator, and device isn't working, try the aforementioned steps before you go further. If you still encounter charging and power issues, it's likely time for it to have an Apple Store or certified provider take a look at it.

I wish mine had worked as well… I went to the place where i buy my phone and they also cleaned for me, they even erase my pictures, videos, apps, everything to update the telephone but didn't work…
The phone had the bolt when connect, but if says 15% it won't pass following that! I can't even make posible to get it on after they suck up all the battery after the reboot

My iphone had various problems with charging. Once I thought it turned out dead once and for all, I found this post, applied the recommendation and now it totally works.
Once I started having a toothpick I gradually picked out so much lint I wonder the way even fit there - and also the phone started charging normally immediately afterwards.
Cable is okay. Port is clean. But….
Every other couple of days, I have to restart/reboot the iPad so as to charge.
It's starting to get annoying. This may seem like something that may be fixed in software.

Was told in the past at Apple store that the MOTHERBOARD on my small MacBook Pro was fried for the reason that charging cord was not functioning property and didn't provide the right amount of electricity to Mac.
So now I am very careful to watch the charging cords for all Apple products.
hard reset and cleaning it did not work :(
Plug it in leave it charging for a time if battery is completely come to an end.
Try some other outlet and different cable when it's not working after a few years.
If the iPhone had water damage it may well be toast.

I recently updated my Iphone 6 OS, shortly my battery must be serviced and it charge doesnt last 60minutes it dead.
charging was an issue also, it sometimes works or otherwise. i've got to keep pressing and release power/sleep button several times for power icon bolt ahead on so the battery could start charging….
i believe its a software issue.
how can i rollback to previous OS,,,,

Phone was dead & when I plugged into charge, the dead batt would glow on screen- but never more than that.
I followed the lint-removal advice, but there was clearly hardly any dust or lint…
since I had not even attempt to lose at this time, I used the ‘toothpick end' of a single of those plastic flosser things to poke/ scrape everywhere in the 3 side edges with the interior in the charge ‘receiver' around the phone. I noticed a little part of something became dislodged from your top corner (there exists a teensy place there it's not flush for the rest in the surface, suitable for junk to obtain trapped).
after scraping, i gave the charge socket a great spray with my can of air- and hallelujah!!! we are thrilled.

This has happened in my opinion before, I plugged it in instantly and allow it to go charge also it worked. But, I have had it happen on another iPhone too, where the iPhone may not charge and it absolutely was because it suffered water damage. So you must think about these options.

While I was working on my small Iphone 4S, I suddenly noticed images cracking up and before too long my iPhone went dead.
To begin with I thought my battery passed away. I tried charging the phone and the indicator wouldn't show. Obviously, without power, iPhone wouldn't boot.
One guy said it's possible that mother board is fried. But he wasn't sure. The phone is reasonably old. Do you feel Apple Store would help fix my issue.

running IOS 9.3.5
Plugged in to 12v charger, but after 90 mins still had black screen.
When home button pressed only showed large battery symbol with thin red line in the bottom.
When cable removed the connect cable symbol was displayed briefly. tried cleaning port and cable but to no avail.
Tried to reboot holding power and home button. but it wasn't clear when it had rebooted because still on black screen.
After holding Power and Home button about 12 times eventually the apple symbol appeared and speak to resumed charging normally
nek minnit… my iPhone is charging.

Ok, that is too late to help, but I thought I'd answer anyway in case someone else finds this post whilst searching to the problem. Here's how to correct it:
Lithium batteries have protection against over-discharging, cash by breaking the circuit if the voltage drops too low to prevent further drain. Unfortunately, once it is triggered, you can no longer put charge back into it because the battery is disconnected internally, so it doesn't matter how long you leave the phone on charge, it remains disconnected and flat.
You only need to have the voltage in it to raise a percent or two to reconnect the safety circuit so it will charge again and it is possible to do that by warming up it. You may get away with leaving the product overnight in a really warm (hot) place, including on top of a hot water tank, however a much more efficient method is to remove battery and heat it down until it's quite hot which has a hairdryer on its hottest setting. Heat it for a great 5-10 mins so the hear soaks right through battery and it feels hot to the touch, this will raise the internal voltage enough to reconnect the protection circuit. Immediately reconnect the battery into the product and put it on charge. After about 10-20 mins, enough charge should return into it to fire up the telephone and it'll return to life.
I've performed this a few times now on various models and it always works. Hope it can help you.
Not sure why this worked for me, however it did.
iPhone6 has been acting pretty wonky the previous couple of weeks. Randomly shutting down, showing 1% charge then approximately 60% when I receive the charger connected, then finally stopped charging. Tried all of the quick fixes, and none worked, so finally I had to restore the product. Big hassle, and I spent the higher part of a morning getting all from the apps situated.
Then a couple of days later, a similar thing happened. Phone says it was dead and might not get it to charge. Started desperately seeking alternatives to restoring the product, again, and discovered the blow dryer suggestion. After a couple of minutes, the apple logo appeared, and also the phone rebooted. The charge showed 100%.
Hopefully this wont happen again, however, if it does I will reach for your blowdryer!!!

Any body has any idea why it isn't charging,
I had this issue after having a screen replaced and beginning to use a case. It seemed to come and go at different times, and I noticed that this pattern favored times I had recently used it for short periods when fully charged or tried on the extender for an extended period on tasks which are not processor-intensive. Remembering an issue I had which has a 2008 MacBook Pro which in fact had a battery that might expand and earn the trackpad fail (airline travel was another issue there), I tested a theory, plus it work: put the phone inside the freezer for 60 or 90 second before charging. Consider wrapping in a very layer of paper towels to attenuate the risk of condensation, however.
It seems that the cooler battery shrinks back and doesn't think the cable is non-certified to be too large.
Spent most my night stressing instead of sleeping when my iPhone SE wouldn't charge yesterday evening. Then see this article.
Connecting the device to my craptop started iTunes on Windoze, and iTunes successfully completed a synch, so apparently the port isn't too cruddy yet.
Reboot cured my problem. Not the first time a reboot has resolved a glitch. When in doubt, reboot out.

Phone wasn't charging - no battery icon. I changed the cable, switched to a different wall outlet but I never switched my Apple wall plug. It always worked before!

SOLUTION!!
For me, none from the above solutions worked whatsoever and I thought I had to get a new phone or battery. BEFORE you take the device in or buy a fresh battery PLEASE TRY THIS!
Heat up battery for a few minutes. If you possess a hair dryer, try blowing hot air around the phone for just two minutes then plug it in to the charger. The Apple logo should appear now. If you do not have a hair dryer, consider using a heating pad. Turn the heating pad on high and lay the phone into it for 5 minutes then remove the heat and plug in the charger. The Apple logo should show up at this time. :)
This SOLUTION saved my entire life, so I hope it helps somebody else! I found the solution on another forum. The reason this works-if anyone cares-is for the reason that Lithium battery inside iPhone could possibly get too cold and stop conducting signals. I just gone after Northern Colorado, so there's my source I guess!
Just then add heat to it and plug it to the charger!
My 3 year-old iPhone 6+ had become increasingly difficult to charge. Cleaning out lint didn't help; I bought several replacement cables most of which helped a little.
It seemed as though the cables weren't fitting as tightly while they had once the iPhone was new, which I guessed could possibly be due to wear caused by repeated plugging and unplugging.
A local iPhone repair business replaced the charging port and is now fine.
I'm surprised that a lot of pages about my iPhone won't charge” don't suggest that a whole new charging port may be what's needed.
